128 Wussiest Song Tournament: Day 7

All votes must be received by 17:00:00 PST Thursday, August 24. Day 7 will be posted tomorrow. Days 4-6 still anxiously await your input.

#2. "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" - Neil Diamond & Barbra Streisand vs.
#15. "Don't Cry" - Guns N' Roses
These would make a plausible mashup.

#7. "How Deep Is Your Love" - Bee Gees vs.
#10. "Scarborough Fair" - Simon & Garfunkel
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and fools breaking us down.

#3. "Such Great Heights" - Iron and Wine vs.
#14. "Please Don't Go Girl" - New Kids on the Block
I got nothing.

#6. "Don't Give Up On Us" - David Soul vs.
#11. "Crash Into Me" - Dave Matthews Band
Starsky & Hutch versus... surprisingly there doesn't seem to be a major motion picture sountrack featuring "Crash".

Apropos of nothing, the track list from "Jenny & Brian Wedding 7/8/2004" (I have no idea who Jenny or Brian are):

1. Sting - Fields Of Gold
2. Sade - By Your Side
3. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
4. Sarah McLachlan - Ice Cream
5. Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
6. Sting - Whenever I Say Your Name
7. The Beatles - In My Life
8. Van Morrison - Crazy Love
9. Dave Matthews Band - #41
10. Barry White - You're The First, The Last, My Everything
11. Guster - Homecoming King
12. Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs
13. Sting - When We Dance
14. Sarah McLachlan - Angel
15. Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me
16. Dave Matthews Band - Crash Into Me
17. Barry White - Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe
18. Adam Sandler - Grow Old With You

You Don't Bring Me Flowers.

Scarborough Fair. This song is one of the reasons The Graduate didn't fully work for me.

whaddaya, wickid retahded? NKOTB!

The David Soul song isn't even the wussiest product from the original S&H, as Paul Michael Glaser directed The Cutting Edge. Jenny and Brian both deserve to be kicked in the crotch for playing "Crash Into Me" at their wedding. I hope they're split up now.

You Don't Bring Me Flowers. Bonus points to G'n'R for that really long note at the end.

Scarborough Fair was from The Graduate? I feel so culturally illiterate.

Such Great Heights >>> NKOTB. Regardless of how one feels about the New Kids, Please Don't Go wasn't that bad a song, especially compared with this cure for insomnia.

Greg, toe picks aren't your thing, are they? Sorry, gotta disagree again. Don't Give Up On Us is definitely wussier, and I don't even like the Dave Mathews Band (possibly because of an awful modern station in Albuquerque that felt it had to play "Ants Marching" about once an hour).

#15 "Don't Cry." Not an obvious choice, but a male act is going to get the wussiness presumption over a male-female duet in my book.

Abstain on Bee Gees vs. Simon & Garfunkel; I don't have a strong enough opinion as to either's wussiness to vote on this one.

#14 "Please Don't Go Girl." I can understand why the Iron and Wine song is in this tournament ... but I've never heard of that group before, while I've had contempt for NKOTB since Reagan was president.

Abstain on David Soul vs. Dave Matthews. I couldn't find an audio clip of "Don't Give Up on Us" and haven't heard it recently enough to evaluate (I mean, not in the last few years).
